Truman Show Paper

We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented.” This quote made by Christof shows just how great some of the dialogue and script of the story makes this movie so good, but this is not the only example of why it’s a classic. The Truman Show depicts several interesting areas of video production through their efficient use of cameras, the great acting by real and fake casts, and the great quality of characters in the story.
The efficient use of cameras in this movie is one reason why it’s such a likeable movie. The angles of the shots are main factor in how this movie is projected. Since there are as many as 5,000 cameras on the set of The Truman Show, they have many angles to show. One example is the upward angle given by the dashboard cam in his car. It makes Truman seem big and important in the scene and shows that he’s traveling to somewhere important. The movie also made it really realistic with the camera placement and the size of camera shots based on where they were. For example, the newspaper stand camera was big because it had a lot of space, but when the camera was shot for the front lawn, the screen had to be down sized because the camera had to be a lot smaller to fit. The movement of the cameras was also big factor such as when they showed the shore of the dome, they panned back and forth to show the depth and long length of it. Also, showing top views of the town made it seem bigger than it actually was. Camera lighting was definitely another huge part to making the cameras realistic, for example, using the green light in the dark scenes so the audience could see Truman, but he could not see the camera himself. Even though cameras were definitely a reason why this movie is a classic, it is not the only reason.
Another reason why this movie is so likeable is because of the great real actors in the movie. The expression and movements of the actual actor is fantastic, especially Jim Carrey. Jim who play Truman is really good as showing his expression and really good with making faces throughout the movie, he’s one of those actors when in the cast, the movie can’t go wrong! The man who plays Christof was also really good at showing his emotions during the film, especially when he was somewhat heated towards the end of the movie when they couldn’t find Truman. The scenes in this movie flow really well together, such as when Truman drives the car really fast at a bunch of different angles, the transitions between shots are really good. I also really liked the fact that the actors acting in the movie actually dedicated themselves to the show for their entire life until their characters were kicked off or forgotten. It’s a nice compliment to the original plot of The Truman Show. These two reasons are big factors of why this movie was so successful, but there is another factor.
The last and final reason of why this movie would be considered a favorite of many is because of the cliché and dynamic characters in the script. The three best characters are Truman, his wife, and Christof the producer of the show. Truman is easily recognizable in this movie by his long lanky stature, always positive attitude, and the ability to show his emotions with crazy facial expressions. He’s the main character of the story because he is definitely the most interesting and the most cliché. Next is Truman’s wife, because she was always excited and what ever happened to her during the show, she always had the mind set to keep her cool until when Truman really cracked and tried to kill her! She was a great actor and could fool Truman into thinking she loved him when she actually had no feelings for him at all. The last of the three main characters is Christof. He’s also one of the most dynamic characters of the story just because he is the genius behind the whole show. Throughout the movie, he seemed very witty and smart with what he was doing just because he could make decisions on the fly and still keep the show a float. He was always in control until the very end and he was good with that control. Towards the end of the movie also, he showed a little of his seductive and persuasive side trying to convince Truman to stay in his show world instead of going out into the sick, cold, real world.
The efficient use of cameras, the great acting of the actor fake and real casts, and the cliché and dynamic characters of the script make The Truman show interesting in the production field of filming. There are many quotes in this film that are memorable, but this one sticks in my mind even more than Christof’s quote I said earlier because it was one of the first lines and last line of the movie. “Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!” by Truman. After hearing this quote, you feel that maybe there will be a post Truman show movie sometime in the future because you wondering thoughts think about how Truman’s life will be in the real world.
